Yokosuka Home-to-Work Bus Priority Seating Policy Reminder

In accordance with Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka Instruction COMFLEACTINST 11240.3F, priority seating on the Ikego and Negishi Home-to-Work buses is given to active duty military and Department of Defense civilian employees.

Family member children may only board the bus at the last stop by U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka only after all adults have boarded the bus.

Just curious, who enforces this? I know my husband has complained A LOT about the dependents getting on before the hospital, the bus driver doesn't say anything, and the times he's brought it up, the kids (teens) have just ignored him...

My daughter rode the Negish bus a few days ago and tried to board the 1600 one, when it arrived at the USNH stop, not only could she not get on because being full of active duty sailors but the teenagers that had boarded at other locations had to get off to make room.  Also a mother with 3 children was asked to leave.  The bus driver did not do this, it was a woman who took it upon herself.  While I admire her forcefullness, she did so with no tact or discretion but annouced it very loudly, embarrasing the other riders.

My daughter took it in stride, waited and took the 1700 bus instead, no worries, she still got home.  But I wonder how the woman with the little ones felt.  I think they need to add another bus because more single sailors are moving into housing up here and do not have cars.

I think you're right in that they should add another bus, as a parent, I would be worried about my child getting home when we thought she would.

Thats why kids get emergency cell-phones. So you always know and can reach your children. Japanese kids get them at a VERY early age. Its very common.

Me and my husband were just talking last night about how they try to push people to move here but do not give an incentive to do so.  If you were offered a stiped to offset costs I think more would move here.  Stiped could be an extra $50 per pay period,  It would help with gas, tolls, etc that people up here have to pay for that residents on Yoko do not.

You get COLA? Cost of living allowance.. I think its a lot better than what people in the states get which is $0...

I never felt I was ever BROKE in Japan.. EVER! Most people say they dont have enough money, but thats BS in my opinion..

Do you know where you make the most money? LIVING OUT IN TOWN? I promise, you I have proven it to guys that didnt believe me.

yes they will give you the exact costs for living in the town house, or apartment, but they give you 2x as much as you need for misc expenses, and expenses.. I was getting around $800 for all that extra stuff above what my rent was out in town, and the total of my bills was around $420.00 So your complaining over $50, you should of moved out in town and been receiving an extra $250-$400 extra.

Another issue, that people forget, is when you live onbase they dont pay your expenses, like phone, television and internet.

that $420 I figured up, included all that stuff. So I never had to come out of pocket AT ALL!!! Here base people are - $200 for spending all that, so if you subtract my @+300 to your -$200 people living out in town are coming out ontop $500 compared to those living onbase.

As a retiree who will be visiting Yokosuka as a reminiscing tourist in a few months, as an alternative to possibly riding the Home-to-Work Bus to visit Negishi Heights for a half-day, what's the recommended public transportation alternative. Assume a taxi is way too pricey . . . J. Thomas
