I have 2 kids that are a little worried about moving to Yokosuka ( they are 8 and 14 ).  So whenever we get ready to move we make a list of all the things we will do before we move again.  My children mentioned Tokyo Disney and I was wondering how far that is from  base.

It takes about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours by driving.
I think it took us around 2 hours by train.

Here are some directions: (at the bottom is a PDF copy)

    TOKYO DISNEY RESORT
    Train Direction
    ------------------------
    From YOKOSUKA

    1. Go to YOKOSUKA CHUO 横須賀中央 Station and buy a ¥910 transfer ticket for MAIHAMA 舞浜 Station on the JR MUSASHINO-KEIYO JR 武蔵野・京葉線 Line.

    2. Take a GREEN or RED KANJI train from track #2 to SHINAGAWA 品川 Station.

    3. Get off At SHINAGAWA 品川, take the stairs up-and-over the tracks near the back of the train and pass through the wicket on the other side (show your ticket but do not surrender it). Go to track #1 and take JR YAMANOTE JR 山手線 Line train five stops to TOKYO 東京 Station.

    4. You will arrive at TOKYO 東京 Station on track #4. Take any exit down from the platform afollow the signs directing you toward "YAESU EXIT 八重洲口" (either North, Central or South). JR MUSASHINO-KEIYO JR 武蔵野・京葉線 Line is identified on these signs by a plain red stripe. Also, there are red/white bilingual signs in this area marked "TOKYO DISNEYLAND." The passageway leading to JR MUSASHINO-KEIYO JR 武蔵野・京葉線 Line is behind the stairs for tracks #9 & #10. (Don't go up these stairs.)

    5. As you approach JR MUSASHINO-KEIYO JR武蔵野・京葉線 Line tracks you will pass through a lounge area marked "KEIYO PLAZA". If you haven't already done so, you can purchase your Disneyland tickets here (see the ticket chart on the back). You can also purchase Shinkansen (bullet train) tickets, or relax for a minute in the seating area. Snack machines and restrooms are available.

    6. Take the stairs or escalator down from the rest area. The long hallway at the bottom of the escalator has three "moving sidewalks" to assist travelers along the way. At the end of the hallway is a second escalator, which takes you down to KEIYO Station lobby.

    7. A third escalator ride (down) brings you to a smaller lobby. There you will see an electronic departure sign (bilingual). Look for the departure time and track numbers for a LOCAL train bound for SOGA. Take one final set of stairs down to reach the tracks where you can catch the LOCAL train. MAIHAMA 舞浜 Station is the 6th stop for the LOCAL train, and it is just across the parking lot from TOKYO DISNEYLAND.

    8. After passing through the wickets (now you can give up your ticket) exit the station to the right. Follow the elevated walkway to TOKYO DISNEYLAND main entrance.
    ------------------------
    From IKEGO

    1. Go to JIMMUJI 神武寺 Station and buy a ¥840 transfer ticket to MAIHAMA 舞浜 Station on the JR MUSASHINO-KEIYO JR 武蔵野・京葉線 Line.

    2. Take a train from track #2 to KANAZAWA BUNKO 金沢文庫 Station and change to a GREEN or RED KANJI train from track #3 to SHINAGAWA.

    3. Continue as above #2.
    ------------------------
    TO RETURN

Basically, just follow the above steps in reverse order. Please note that you cannot buy a ticket all the way back to YOKOSUKA CHUO (or JIMMUJI) Station from the park. Buy one ticket from MAIHAMA Station to SHINAGAWA Station. There, you should turn in your ticket at KHK Line ticket windows and buy a second ticket for the remainder of the trip to YOKOSUKA CHUO (or JIMMUJI) Station.
    ------------------------
Driving Direction From Yokosuka: Total Toll ¥2,250

    1. Turn right at the main gate onto Rt. 16. After passing Daiei Mall, enter on to HONCHO-YAMANAKA Toll Road. Pay ¥200 at tollgate and go left at the fork follow the sign for YOKOHAMA-YOKOSUKA (YOKO-YOKO) Toll Road.

    2. Take YOKO-YOKO Toll Road towards YOKOHAMA. After the #5 exit: ASAHINA, get in the left lane and follow the signs for NAMIKI/HANEDA AIRPORT/SHUTO EXPWY B.

    3. When you get to the KAMARIYA tollgate pay a ¥750, and then follow the signs for HANEDA AIRPORT/SHUTO EXPWY B. At the TORIHAMA tollgate pay a ¥600 and follow SHUTO EXPWY “B”. Stay on SHUTO EXPWY “B”. You will drive over BAY BRIDGE, past HANEDA AIRPORT and you’ll come to the OI tollgate pay a ¥700.
You cannot use AQUALINE to go to Disneyland.

    4. Get into the left lane for exiting to the left at URAYASU EXIT. You’ll see an English exit sign that says “TOKYO DISNEY RESORT”. Follow this sign from this point. Also see map below.
    ------------------------
From IKEGO: Total Toll ¥1,850 one way

    1. Go straight at the main gate then turn left at Rt. 24 (7-11 store on right hand corner). After passing 6 traffic lights at Rt. 24, you will see the YOKO-YOKO Expressway entrance on your right. Make a right turn at the traffic light to get on YOKO-YOKO Expressway. Take a ticket and take the left hand fork towards YOKOHAMA.

    2. Continue as above #2.

    -------------------------------------------
PARKING: ¥2,000 for regular size cars.

Parking is limited, so please use public transportation whenever possible.

Hi there. Tokyo Disney is in Chiba, quite the haul from base. I been there many time on service calls. Milions of people and stupid staged attractions. States is better.

You dont need to read all that sh-t he just posted. Get on the kehien train outside the base go to shinagawa, change to the yamate line go to tokyo from there keio line and its like 3 or 4 stops. Simple

You dont need to read all that sh-t he just posted.
Some people that are new, need baby steps.. I doubt she will understand "Shinagawa" a "Kehien Train"... Some people will feel at ease with a piece of paper, and some directions. I know you have been in Japan very long, but some people that are new, are nervous to travel places without having some sort of idea where they are going.

Nobody ever gave me any baby step help. How difficult can it be? Japan was designed for mindless robots so its easy to get around. They got intstructions on how to even wipe your azz Sh-t, the sign is in English! Track # 2 Shinagawa Green sign for Yamate line with Tokyo in English on it. Get off in Tokyo, big sign Keiyo line.

It amazes me with the level of douche-baggery that you (raider) resort to to ruin everyone's day.  Adam takes the time to post detailed, informative instructions so that folks can find their way around and the best thing you have to contribute is "Don't listen to that s**te!"  Let folks form their own opinions.  Your's aren't helping anyone!

Thanks everyone.. I am up for anything. I love being a navy wife and able to travel the world and see past the gated fences that surround our bases. I always felt a need to travel since I was young. All my family and friends still hang out on the same damn street corner bar in Brooklyn. SO I have no problem going to the train station and just asking someone where I should go and if they send me in the worng direction I will find something better to do in that direction =)

I have 2 kids that are a little worried about moving to Yokosuka ( they are 8 and 14 ).  So whenever we get ready to move we make a list of all the things we will do before we move again.  My children mentioned Tokyo Disney and I was wondering how far that is from  base.

I think it is great you are getting out and seeing things. I would, however, caution you that this Disneyland is very, very popular- which means very crowded- remember, Tokyo alone is home to something like 12 million people, and another 12 or 13 million in the surrounding areas. Orlando this place is not! If crowds are no problem for you then you may enjoy your time there. There is much to see and do in Japan, some of which can be done along the way to where Disneyland is located. As far as directions to get there I think that was laid out pretty clear, be it detailed or simple. I doubt you would get lost, and if you did I'm sure EVERY Japanese person you talk to would know exactly how to get to Disneyland! Have fun.

Raider... you just like to suck the joy out of everything, don't you? If you hate it here so much why don't you just leave? I like the "mindless robots" just fine and I'd hang out with them instead of you any day.

Disney is great! I've heard Disney Sea is the better of the two parks. We are excited to go this Spring! Have a great time!

@Tara, the post is titled "Traveling to Disney Resorts Japan", but it seems you are asking for more than just that so I will post "outside of the topic" in order to answer to what you wrote on the original post. Children 8-14 have a TON of things to do in Japan and it would really depend on their own interests in order to help best, but here are a few things:

If any of your children are in to sports Japan has some of the most populated sports clubs I have ever seen. Be it baseball ~ kendo ~ Aikido your children could spend hours upon hours doing nothing but sports off base. Healthy for their minds/hearts & helps build a ton of relationships that will last throughout the years. I even know one location that teaches Aikido to young kids very very very cheap (did I mention he is cheap).

Universal studios Japan is not very far (if you don't mind taking the Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) or a short flight (under 10,000 per person).

Boy Scouts of America & Girls Scouts are both represented on the base with a decent amount of membership.

Fishing is a huge thing in Japan and very cheap compared to most of the sites in the US I lived in before.

Learning Japanese - they are little older than the "ideal" age to start a new language, but they are better off than an adult as they are still in the "hungry for knowledge" stages of life.

Amusement parks/Aguariums: I should really separate these two as they are 180 degree opposites on price. Amusement parks are very cheap in Japan (usually only requiring you to pay for the rides themselves). Granted that Amusement Parks in Japan are not these HUGE parks that you would be used to in the US, but there is a really popular one in the Minato Mirai/Sakuragiicho district of Yokohama that has three or more roller coasters (short ones) and a Ferris Wheel that was once the largest in the world. Japan has a ton of Aquariums, but I haven't found one yet that I could consider cheap. They are all outstanding, but again...not cheap.

Zoos...there are three zoos within 30 minutes drive to the base. None are huge, but I think the most expensive one is around 700 yen per person (7 USD)

Onsens (Japanese style Hot Springs)...I just returned from one this weekend and had a blast with my 6 & 4 year olds. They love the hot springs...the hotels was awesome and WOW the food we had (ok that part was REALLY EXPENSIVE, but it was my wife's birthday). We spent the day going to a Cactus Park (which is also like a zoo with many many animals), we visited a great tourist site with a suspension bridge...kids loved that one.

Japan is an extremely safe environment... it is not unusual to see a small child (younger than either of yours) roaming the streets after dark to return home. It is not unusual to see them taking the train alone as young as 7 years old. (Yes, I can already hear you replying "THAT'LL BE THE DAY", but once you get here and teach them the ropes of riding the train you will see how safe it really is...)

I am going to stop right now...but let me tell you there are so many things for children to do especially the 14 year old that will just keep them busy all the time. Feel free to ask a more specific question and I'll research the h#ll out of it for you.

Yeah, I saw that...I read it on Adam's Facebook before I saw it on the site.  It had to happen...I don't know if his experiences were real or made up, but damned if that child didn't have some of the worst times in Japan if they were real.  I won't post any longer to this topic regarding it, but simply wanted to answer your question.

I've been to both; I do prefer Disney Sea.
For my son however (he's 6) I would actually take him to disneyland.

I had a nice longer post submitted for you but it was just as Adam locked the thread. Now, I'm too lazy to type it all up as I get ready for work.

You can make it there in 45 minutes from Yokosuka, with no traffic...not hard at all.

So I thought I would post on this topic line......

I am travelling via car to Disney (I have been there numerous times but always via train)

I have annual passes to both parks and plan to visit mostly Disney Sea on this trip, but to hop over to DisneyLand to purchase their easter egg hunt promotion to get the "free souvenior memorable and to do some shoping) for about an hour or two.

I am renting a car and driving there. I have two others sharing the car who wil be spending the day at DisneySea and looking for a fourth to split the costs of the car, gas and parking.

Not sure how much the gas cost will be but so far the Car is $49.00 and parking is 2000.Yen. I think the yen rate right now is 79. So the parking would be about $25. So the 1/4 shar would be $18.50 per person for transportation costs. The ticket price to get into one park right now is about 5200 Yen which equates to about $66.00.

If you are interested please email me directly at ALock92@aol.com or phone 080-3005-6461 SoftBank, or home 241-4735.

I plan to leave on Tuesday. I will be picking up the rental car at 8 am.
I am not sure what time we will be back as that is due to when we leave the park and how much traffic we encounter on the way home.
I am thinking we will be leave the park around 6-7 and be back around 9:00-10:00 pm.
