Well, I know that, but quite honestly, CPR certification isn't really at the top of my list of things I look for in a casual babysitter. However, I've yet to have an actual stranger watch my kids. It's always been trading off with other moms or kids from my church.

I'm a bit more laid back about my kids than some, though.

Well that is your opinion. Everyone is entitled to that! Some parents are more protective than others.

Well, I'm not criticizing you. Some issues are more important to some parents than they are to others. I'm sure I've got things I'm more worried about, that you might not give a second thought.

I once choked as a child. I remember I was eating a piece of candy. Strange thing was, my mom was the one that saved me, and got the candy dislodged from my throat. Do you know where we were? The doctors office.. My mom told me, that the doctor just starred into space not knowing what to do. I think I just remember that memory, and I always picture (what would I do in that situation).. It can happen to anyone. I just wouldnt want to leave a child with someone that would just stare at the child and wonder, "why are they gagging?" Is there something wrong? HELLOOOOOOO!! that much time to figure out a question like that, and your child is ready to stop breathing. I didnt mean anything about being a mother and not being CPR qualified. I definitely would recommend it though. Most people in the military have to be CPR qualified now a day.

No, I know you weren't meaning anything by it, Adam. It's just that I babysat lots when I was in high school and college, and that was never something that entered the consciousness of the parents I worked for. So, I read this and I can imagine what Amber was thinking.

Also, my kids aren't babies any more, and so I'm less concerned about them choking on something or getting into something dangerous. The vast majority of their injuries these days are direct results of their not following my safety instructions, and I belong to the, "that's what you get for disobedience," school of parenting (this does not mean I won't take a kid to the hospital with a broken arm, or comfort someone with a skinned knee ... just that I think stupidity has its consequences).

I know what Amber was thinking too. I worked at a daycare, so I was require to be CPR certified. The parents that I babysat for didn't 'require' it, but they knew that I was and I'm sure it made them feel that their child was a lot safer with me than with someone who wasn't.. just as Adam was describing what happened to him in the doctor's office.

Right. The base sets the amount for child care on base. Obviously those of us who watch children for a living don't do it for the money.

Yes, there is a list at the Red Cross office of pre-teen and teens still in High school. I'm a full time College student so I can't risk getting an hourly job because College takes up most of my day just studying trying to keep a 3.4 GPA. I charge just as much as I would get working at any real job of minimum wage, I used to work at the N.E.X and I was getting $9.00 an hour. Also as a babysitter I thought it would be a good idea to become trained in CPR and First Aid incase anything were to happen, ANYTHING can happen in life. So it’s good to be educated just in case. Kids get into a lot of stuff, maybe swallows a toy? Or eats something they're allergic to? OR maybe they fall on glass or get hurt to the point of bleeding. Red Cross CPR and First aid has taught me how to go about any of those situations. Also I have my own car, and I drive to where ever I'm babysitting so that the kids can be in their own house. If I charged 3 dollars per child then with the families with only one child it wouldn't be worth me driving to the house and babysitting. I need money and 3/hour won't work. I know the CDC charges $3.00 per child per hour, but the workers that work there get $10.00 something an hour or more. I'm not sure how much it is here but in Naples it was $10.45 an hour. If the families do not like my prices, I explain to them why I charge that much and MAYBE we can talk about a price for bulk hours I babysit, if not I tell them about the CDC.

I don't want to step on anyone’s toes but this is my ONLY job because I am a full time College Student. Classes at Maryland are $546.00 not including all the books I need to buy. And I take 4-5 classes every 8 weeks. That’s 2,184-2,730 just for the classes every two months. THEN add on 500.00 for books at the very least that’s OVER $3,000. I have a lot of families that use me and they all do not have a problem with my prices. I would rather not be pointed out that my prices are bad when you can just find someone else whom is in high school that will charge less. BUT they are not paying for College, might I remind you.

WHICH leads me to another point; there are base rules on ages of how long teens can babysit. I'm not sure on the exact ages but I think you have to be over the age of 18 to babysit over night and over 16 to babysit past a certain hour. I'm 19, with a car, who is CPR certified. I can stay over on weekends; I can take a child to the E.R with a letter from the parents if something happened over the weekend. I feel that I'm more qualified than someone in Middle School or High School, but that is my opinion.

Mommykate, I feel your comment “Wow girls. You are expensive! lol. As a certified CDH provider on base. we can only charge $3-$5 an hour for any type of care, whether it be during the day, nights, or weekends.” Was a stab at me and EarthNatureGirl in order for you to get more business. Neither of us talk about other people’s charges to try and get people to come to us. If you charge 3-5 dollars then that is your business, don’t try to make us seem like we are charging OUTRAGOUS prices because I have a lot of business, and I’m sure she does too. So obviously our prices aren’t that outrageous. Your comment makes you sound like a Professional but I don’t think your comment towards EarthNatureGirl and I was very professional at all. BUT that’s just my view.

Wow, Cassie. That was not my intent at all, that is how you took it. I wrote:
"Wow girls. You are expensive! lol. As a certified CDH provider on base. we can only charge $3-$5 an hour for any type of care, whether it be during the day, nights, or weekends. "
I don't see how that was rude. I was teasing. I don't have a choice in the matter.
I was just addressing what is what on base and how they do things. I too am a full time student ( a military wife and mom. a hard combination) at CTC and our tuition is $723/class so I understand the costs involved. It takes me one month of watching kids full time, 5 days a week, to pay for one class, not even including the books involved. Adam asked if that rate was set by me or the base, I was explaining why. And I was explaining to the parents who are concerned about who watches their child, what their options are on base. ALSO, my kids are a set group every day and they come off waiting lists. I do not watch kids out side of daily working hours because, like I said, I am a full time student myself and go to class at night, have to take care of my own home, daughter, (leave her with a babysitter at night while I'm in class) and deal with my husbands schedule, meaning I am home alone most weeks out of the month to do it all alone. I do not want to take business from you or anyone else. I don't have the time for it. I utilize babysitters when I have to for myself. I am sure you have a lot of customers and they are happy with you. That's great, and I wish you luck. If you knew me as a person or could hear a persons tone when reading, you'd understand that I wasn't saying anything rude.

Oh yeah. I also recommended getting on the Red Cross list so that Commands can hire you. It is good money when they need child care for things. Not only that, but parents who do not know you yet will have your name on the list.

Hi, My name is Carrington Quezada. I am a 12 year old 7th grader at Yokosuka Middle School. This is my second year taking Home Economics class, which talks a lot about babysitting, children, and their needs. I was also Red cross trained, so I know CPR, First aid, and how to handle all emergancy procedures.

So If you need a break from your kids and the stress that comes with it, then you can count on me to keep your kiddos in good hands. Kids are one of many things that I love, along with animals if you have pets as well. I will become your child's best friend! I am willing to cook, clean, play with, and try my best to help with homework that they might be struggling with. I have even babysitted an 18 month old, so small children are not an issue.

If you need to contact me to set a date or to get extra info about me and my services, you contact me on this website, but i am more updated on facebook, and my email- carringtonquezada@yahoo.com. Thank you, and I hope to be hearing from you soon!

Need a babysitter on Yokosuka Base, either in my home or theirs, that would be able to accommodate a 3yr old boy.  Please reply with any suggestions.

I've had CDH providers in the past, and I feel more confident with them, but any help is better than none at this time!

Yokosuka base. We'll be living off base and currently, I would need care for my 1 yr old 3x a week from about 10-2pm. But, sorry... she's still in diapers. I haven't been able to successfully potty-train by 1 year old...one-and-a-half, yes, but not by 1. After mid-July, I'd add my 4 year old (potty-trained) son, too. Thanks, though.

Anyone else?

Would you be able to give me a number where I'd be able to be given a referral list of teenagers than could care for a good baby girl that still needs her diaper changed occasionally?

Throwing this on here since this has kinda become a "wanted" thread.

In need of a babysitter for a friend THIS Friday (the 15th) Saturday (the 16th)! Needed for the late afternoon/evening that can do a late night. Two boys. Would like the babysitter to come to the residence to sit (Yokosuka base). Price negotiable.

If not available, still would like to know if available for future reference!

THANK YOU!

Thanks, Cat. Yes you are! But when I posted I still didn't know if you guys where really coming! Soon, I'll be settled enough to take on little teaching jobs here and there and I'll occasionally need a sitter. Thanks for being there! I might start caring for kids myself! I brought all my CDH stuff from San Diego and I set up Soleil's room like a pre-school/playroom. It sucks I can't be a CDH provider just because I live off-base. Oh well...

I'm looking for a babysitter to use about once a week for an hour or two here on the Yokosuka base. I have a 1 year old and a 3 1/2 year old. I'd like someone that is CPR certified just because that always makes me feel better. My children have never had a babysitter before, and I anticipate my 3 1/2 year old being fine but I want to warn anyone that is available that my 1 year old boy will probably cry 75% of the time. I don't want that to take anyone by surprise. He's a mama's boy and has never been with anyone but me or his Dad so just thought I'd put that out there. If anyone is interested, please send me a message and we can discuss fees. I'd like to take a language class during the day here on base once a week so that is the big thing I'm looking for a babysitter for. Plus, occasionally I'd like to go out to dinner with my husband off base somewhere, as I haven't had dinner alone with him in almost 4 years now! Thanks all!

Hi everyone.

I'll be looking for a babysitter around November/December time. We will be in Navy Lodging during that time frame. My son will be just over 4 1/2 - 5 months old. It will probally just be once a week and maybe until 1am at the latest.

Just to put it out there.....my fiance has been a professional babysitter here in Japan for the last 6 years ( she is Filipino). Due to various circumstances, she is going to be moving in with me and would love to find some work nearby. We live only one stop away from Yokosuka base, and she can give excellent references. So if anyone is in need of a regular babysitter, than shoot me a message. FYI, she is currently in her first trimester herself, so being able to watch them in my apartment would be prefered, if possible, especially since she does not have a pass to get onto base. She really doesn't want to be bored for the next 2 months while I'm going to be gone underway.

Cassey if you are not booked already, I am interested in your babysitter services for the weekend after next. Do you have a age limit for your babysitting services? I am asking beforehand because my son just turned 15.

Hi! I need a babysitter for my 4 mo. old daughter on the 28th (She'll be a few days away from 18 weeks by that date) of October from around 7:45pm-12:30 am (1945-0030 for you military types). References are preferred, as well as CPR and Red Cross cert. Honestly, my baby should be pretty much asleep by 8 pm, so it's a pretty easy night! Prefer a babysitter that will come over to a tower, Yokosuka base.

Will also need a babysitter starting late November for the occasional Thursday/Friday/Saturday night out. (Baby will be 5- 5 1/2 mo. old by then)

Please message me if you're interested! Thanks!

Hi Miss Cassie, I'm very interested in getting a babysitter for my two kids so my husband and I can go out, worry free Our kids are 3 and 5, Ethan is 3 and Katie is 5. We live on Yoko base, so you would charge 8.50 an hour for both kids? I also have two dogs, are you okay with pets as well? I would love to meet you and let me kids get to know you. Let me know what you think

Samantha

I need a babysitter for TOMORROW NIGHT (Thursday) from about 5-930. We live in Ikego, and someone who can watch her there would be preferred. I have a command Christmas party and our babysitting situation fell through. My daughter will be 1 in a few days. She normally goes to bed for the night around 6ish, so it would be super easy, she'll be asleep pretty much the entire time. Please message me or email me navygirl226@gmail.com

Hi All,

I am a 22yr old newly married Navy wife here in Yokosuka, Japan.  I absolutely love kids (my Husband and I are trying now), my age limit is 16.  I am currently looking for classes to do my CPR training again as it was last done in the States 7yrs ago.  I am happy to travel to Yokosuka Naval Base and also Ikego and off base houses.  I am available days and nights and also sometimes on the weekend.

I have met BekiG and her little boy is such a sweetheart.  So if anyone would like a babysitter please let me know either through PM or email me: bnorman0189@gmail.com

Hope to hear from you all soon .
