Question.....If given the choice to live in a 3 bedroom tower apt in Ikego or a 3 bedroom tower apt based in Yokosuka which would you choose? Factoring only the quality of the apt, tower, noise, etc. Please do not factor in the amenities at the bases, etc..simply the apt itself. Appreciate the help! Also if anyone has any pictures of a 3 bedroom Yokosuka tower apt or Ikego tower apt I would love to see them. I can send you my e-mail if anyone has some. Thanks!

Ikego. Our towers are newer and from what I've seen of the base ones, the fire escape is not a door like we have. It's a sealed up hole you have to somehow get open.

I live on base in a 3 bedroom. (just moved from a 2 bedroom) Both of our places have doors in the master bedroom that lead out to the fire escape.

Yokosuka does have new 2 towers that were built in the last 3-4 yrs. (BARA & UME). I believe those 2 towers are also newer than any towers on Ikego. I am not sure if Ikego does-- but these 2 towers are the only ones on Yokosuka's base that have wood accents (doors/closets) and none of that 'aluminum kitchen' decoration-- the wood accents make for a more "warm home" type of feel.

Yes, Bara and Ume are newer and don't have the stainless steel counter tops. As for the fire escapes, what I saw in Bara was off the master bedroom balcony. You have to knock out a panel to get to the fire escape stairs. Ours is a door off the balcony that stays locked but opens from our side only. I could be wrong but that's what I remember. I also seem to remember someone saying that during the typhoon, their fire escape panel got blown in.

That's weird. I'm on one of the older 3 bedroom towers on Yokosuka base and we have a door in the master bedroom that opens to the little balcony leading to the fire escape. We used it this summer when some genius pulled the fire alarm in the middle of the night.

what are the kitchens like in ikego. I heard they have stainless countertops and are very commercial feeling not homey at all.

Well, they aren't designer kitchens by any means! Yes, stainless steel counters except for the pass through/bar area. I like the ss counters. The tile on the backsplash is off white with brown grout-yuck. The cabinets are white. SS sink with garbage disposal. The floor tile is the same throughout the apt. Basic industrial white with streaks of gray. You just have to warm it up with accessories.

so this proably doesnt have to do with the question, but are we able to install carpet if we pay for it? I was active duty in charleston afb and we had that ugly white tile throughout the house, we were able to put carpet in as long as we took it out before we moved.

I live on main base in one of the older towers and our tower was remodeled about 4 years ago about the same time the 2 new towers were built and we don't have  the stainless still counter tops and we do have the the new wood cabinets. Also they made it to were there is 2 entrances to the kitchen, the older ones only have one. I would have liked it the old way as far as having 1 entrance cause now when people walk in they can see everything in my kitchen and its not blocked off and we lost a lot of wall space to put stuff.

I'm not sure about getting wall-to-wall installed. Not sure where you'd get it. You can get large area rugs. At AVE they have the rug tiles and put them all over. It's not very plush, though. A lot of people get nice oriental rugs at the bazaars and auctions or cheaper ones at AVE, Homes, etc.. I got one on eBay and they shipped it via USPS!

I would rather live in Yokosuka.  My husband would rather be in Ikego because he feels like he actually is leaving work by getting off of the main base.  My husband and I have been living in Ikego for over a year.  Its ok but my main gripe is the fact that we do not have carpet.  Every apartment I have been to at the main base has carpet.  I do not know why they didnt put any in here.
I do not like how the kitchen is either, I do not like the stainless steel countertops, I feel like I am in a hospital cafeteria.

I like not having carpet because most of my family is allergic to dust mites.

Well, we don't have carpet in our tower in Yokosuka (just a metric buttload of area rugs). Our former downstairs neighbors had theirs installed, but I don't remember where he said he went to have it done. I hate having to mop the floors, because they still never seem to look clean afterwards.

I hate the stainless countertops. They're a pain in the butt to keep looking nice, because they're so prone to streaking.

I love apartments in Ikego. The only thing I dont like about them is the lack of carpet. I have to sweep and mop every few days or my apartment floor gets really gross. Plain and simple IKEGO RULES!!!

I would rather "swiffer' my floors than drag out the vacuum. I do have a couple of area rugs and when i vacuum them, I am amazed at all the dirt and hair that's collected in the cannister! To think about that grosses me out! Carpet hides a lot of stuff but it's still there.

What about the noise. I heard a lot of complaints that the neighbor below you will hear a lot of noise when you walk, if you have children, drop something or move furniture. Please if anyone in Ikego tower can confirm if that is the case.

I OCCASIONALLY hear something from up above but it has to be really major. It's sounds very distant. I think the sound-proofing in our tower (and I am assuming the others) is excellent. Friends from the town houses have a different story> I believe the walls there are much thinner. I wouldn't know I had neighbors except when they are noisy in the hallway or on the balcony. The only time I've been slightly annoyed with the upstairs neighbors was when they were moving out there was some furniture moving but it wasn't bad. Once we had to go ask them to be quiet because they were having a raucous party and it was after 2200.
