Has anyone else seen these? It's great! It's got all these restaurants in the Zushi area listed, the cuisine they serve, if they have parking or not, if they accept a credit card or not...and it's listed on the map! I know I'm a dork for being this excited, but it's great, you can get them at the OIC office, check them out!

Definately will check out. Maybe this will get me out on my days off. They should provide them in the welcome packet for Ikego!

    Adam,

Create me a sub-forum in the pictures area, titled JAPAN MAPS, please... Or better yet... a menu item between "pictures" and "members" that says "Maps". Either one.

I'll hook it all up for ya.

    Loki,

    Just got home.

Going to create you the album now.

Just to elaborate a tad on what I am working on.

Basically there is a complete restaurant directory I am creating for the every type of food, and each restaurant in JAPAN! I mean all of them will be added to this website! Yes you read that correctly, all of them.

I just teamed up with a couple people that are very connected, and are helping me with this. Very good news!

Anyhow its going to offer each restaurant, a lot of options to display DAILY specials, monday, tuesday, and it will break down, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I will create additional pages for each location, ie. Yokosuka Specials for Monday at Lunch, and each special will display on 1 page, and you can read all the comments, reviews, and even oh yeah I forgot, that special coupon they also offer... I am very excited as you can tell, and have been working on this all week.

I think the interactivity, and the comments, for the yokosuka area, and ikego, zushi is really going to open peoples eyes, to what is out there, and offer people a great directory for anything and everything they would like to go and eat..

On the subject about maps. I know I have not brought over all the maps to this site that FFSC has to offer, but I am looking for volunteers to help me with something.

I have been meaning to mention it, but I have been so busy with things recently. I am looking for a team of people t start helping with a lot of projects I have going on. I would like to meet sometime off-base and I discuss all the plans that are in the making. I need the help from you guys. The site doesnt make $, and unfortunately at this time compensation can only be given in in my LOVE and I can assure you, you wont be forgotten.. I am a very honest and hard working individual that is trying to start something from the ground up, and up until now, I have never asked for any help from anyone. I have found things to start becoming busier than I could handle, and I knew it would happen, just not this soon.

Anyhow, I think there are a lot of honest people through these threads, and some of you really care, and want to see the site do great things. I am giving you all a shot to help me make that happen.

I will start a new thread so we can discuss the details in further. ** Not sure why I just started it here ** Ooops.. Sorry Loki.. my bad.. :0)

Anyhow, about the maps, I am planning to build a VERY interactive maps section, which will basically point out a single location, i.e. kamakura for example. It will offer the community members (all you registered) to be able to update fields for me.

    The fields will be:

    Coming from Yokosuka
    Going to Yokosuka

    Coming From Ikego
    Going To Ikego

You get the idea. Now you get my drift. It will allow someone coming from 1 place get there, but also have a great direction to get them back to another location, that the base FFSC maps would never provide.

I want to offer this from everywhere around here, even Yokota, Zama, Atsugi, etc..

It will take some time, but I have some solid planning already done with it.

Estimate time to develop everything for you to start working it: about 5 hours development
I just havent had the time to finish it and get it all done. That tells you how busy I really am.

    Anyhow, thanks again..everyone.

There are some great restaurants in Zushi within walking distance of shinzushi station. Some of my favorites are Kamakura Pasta, Cantina, the Thai place at the end of Zushi Ginza street, Gyu Kaku (although it's never open when we try to visit anymore), The Gyudon shop across from Zushi station, The Natural Cafe, and a little Udon/Soba restaurant across from Shinzushi station that you'd miss if you blinked. I've heard The ScoreCard has good Curry.

Have all of you in Ikego eaten at Fukuman outide the gate. It's delicious, and there is an English menu. You can also get take out, but you need to bring your own bowl if you're getting Ramen.

I picked one up at the Jinmuji station today!

BTW- Does anyone know if there are any 'Sushi-go-round' (kaiten-zushi) locations in Zushi? (There are sushi locations indicated on the map-- but not sure if they are on a "go-round") =)

I just asked my mother-in-law, and she said there is no sushi-go-rounds.

She did say, there are plans to build one, but it hasnt been started yet..

The best ones are near Yokosuka.

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think there is a Sushi-go-round right next to Kamakura station. This would be a very easy train ride/drive from Ikego. I know there is also one in Enoshima.

Also, if you enter Kamakura and take a LEFT towards the beach, you'll find another sushi joint on the left-hand side. One of those 2nd floor places with parking underneath.

Loki: They'r cheap. Buy a new one. Hell, I got a Kodak off of woot.com for $85 including shipping. And it reminds me when to order more cartridges, which, by the way, come in less than a week!

And, jeeze, folks, Kamakura is not Zushi. For that matter neither is Yokosuka and there's a lot of kaiten zushi (sushi-go-round) in Yokosuka.

I'm very well aware that Kamakura is not Zushi.  Just as you suggested someone might make the short trip off base to go get milk out in town, I was suggesting that someone could make the trip (a 5 minute difference) to the next town over.

Can no one say anything on this site with out someone else making a not so nice comment back? This site has the potential to be awesome, but the negativity is a little discouraging.

Hmm, seems I am not the only person to think that then about making "not so nice" comments! I know this is not part of this forum, but I have been called names at least twice on this site, by people who have no idea who I am, surely this site is about - oh hang on what is it that everyone bangs on about - oh yeah FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and people are entitled to their opinions and ideas!

I've noticed that almost any post a women puts on here gets some sort of negative feedback.  Hmmmm.....should we all just talk about cars, and "The good Ol' days of Yokosuka?"  I guess I don't understand what the point of this site is, if not to be able to ask questions, or post information.  I'll respond to people's posts if I can help them out with info, but I don't bother posting my own subjects anymore.  There's 5 people in particular on this site who just try to ruin it in my opinion.  Not going to let unhappy people bring me down.......and they wonder why people don't want to post personal information on their profiles.

One of my received insults was from another woman, who it turns out is a Training Curriculum Specialist at the CDC here in Japan! She couldn't just tell me she didn't agree with my views/comments or that I might have been wrong, she had to thrown in a personal insult too!
It would appear that some people find some of the topics on here a bit trivial, like say the subject of no milk, or if others have a less than perfect knowledge of a certain subject, they see fit to belittle, insult, make rude comments and basically slag off others just because we may not have their SUPERIOR BRAIN POWER! If this is the case, then they should find a subject that does interest them and where they are not tempted to ruin the site for others!

Ladies, I have seen insults and rude comments in the past, but isn't this really an over-reaction for this case? His statement was "And, jeeze, folks, Kamakura is not Zushi. For that matter neither is Yokosuka and there's a lot of kaiten zushi (sushi-go-round) in Yokosuka." this is neither rude nor an insult, but rather stating a fact with a little disbelief comment at the beginning (ie "jeeze"). I will admit that in the past some people have been quite rude...but I can't see this one as being one of those times.

I hope you all continue to contribute about more than "cars and the good-ole days"...I have learned from some of you and hope to continue doing so.

Point is, folks, let's stick to the subject at hand which is "Zushi area menu and map in English". Wanna talk about kaiten zushi? Start another thread and tell everyone where your favorites are. This supposed to be a place where people can find assistance. And no, it's not called "sushi-go-round", "rotary sushi" or "sushi-on-a-belt". It's kaiten (kye-ten) zushi. There. Ya learned something new. How great was that? Stick around, I"ve got plenty more. All ya gotta do is ask. And' I"m not the onliest one on this site who knows stuff, either. Let's lighten up and play nice. And I'm happy as hell!

You make a good point Gbeck.. People start drifting in the threads from the original topics all the time. If you want to talk about new things, please just create a new post. Before you do keep asking different questions, please use the search feature on the forums page, and look for previous topics.. It may of been talked about in the past..

Thanks guys for helping everyone get information.. I know sometimes people get frustrated with one another with posts, but everything I believe is friendly, and no one is out to talk down to anyone. If we start to have problem children, I will warn once, suspend second, and delete third...

I hate to do it, but one last thing to mention about Sushi (and I think Adam will approve)... There is a group about Sushi where we share the best locations to go for Sushi. It hasn't been very active due to it being one of the first groups created and a lot of members have joined lately. Go to the home tab (up top) and then to Groups and you will find it. It is a comment based group so very easy to peruse and add to the discussion.

There...now to be back on Topic... @Loki did you scan those dox yet or what?!?!

No I never posted this map. Another user said he was going to, but dont think it was ever posted. I am working on another couple cool areas.. Please just be a little more patient. A complete directory of everything in Japan is being developed. Food, Bars, etc.. Sightseeing, Recreational Activities.. Then they will jointly connect with a huge DIRECTIONS database, that all the members of Japanbases.com will be able to help keep up to date. The directions will point to 1 location, and you will be able to provide input going (to and from) every single military installation. Should be cool, once I am finished with it.

    Jenn,

I am going to start working on the business directory late April.

Every single business in Japan will be added to a massive business directory I am creating. ALL OF THEM!
You will be able to get details about the business, map, contact info, and each person that is a member of JB will be able to rate & comment about each location.

I am finishing up this housing section now, and will be done soon.

After the business directory will start a restaurant section.

This year is a BIG year for JB. Lots of new things will be launched.
We will start with the Business Directory in Yokosuka first, then venture to Zushi, and the rest of the Kanagawa prefecture.

Each business will be listed for FREE! We will not be charging them, so everyone will be added, REGARDLESS!

Off the top of my head I know of 2 105 yen shops on Ginza street.  One is above a grocery store, Kings.  I hear the grocery prices aren't all that great, but I shop there anyway. There is another 105 yen store on Ginza closer to the beach.  It's above a drug store.  There is another grocery across the street from the JR station (with a Starbucks).  You pass Maretsu all the time on 24 I'll bet.  It's a grocery as well.  I have only shopped there once though.

**sigh** I really thinks it's about etiquette..... maybe there just isn't any online.... but we could try. You don't have to blow smoke to be civil. That's just my opinion. The assumption was made that, everyone should surely know something, when in actuality this site is for the purpose of learning and gathering information, for newcomers and for bringing a community together, right? Not to belittle or degrade for NOT knowing. Corrections on wrong information is great and most welcome, without being insulting, but by being helpful. So, I beg to differ.  I agree that it was both rude AND insulting.  If some people don't have a problem BEING rude or insulting, I don't thing that they should have a problem being called out.

"And, jeeze, folks..." is rude AND insulting?

I'm agreeing with what you say, for the most part. But you may be OVERLY sensitive if that comment is considered either rude or insulting, much less both.

Zushi area map and listings have been uploaded to the picture area. Once the uploads are approved, they will appear.

And, when printed, they are legible.

    Hi,

I'm an English teacher living in Zushi. I'm not in the military, so I hope I can participate here.

Loki, are these the maps you're referring to?

These are all too small to be read.

Google maps has a lot of info with some English and some shop logos. And much more of Zushi is now on google street view. Here is a link to the big 100 yen shop in Zushi:
    http://goo.gl/Huxi
It is on the north side of that three-way intersection above the drugstore / Healthcare store. It is a DAISO 100 yen shop. Drag the Street View figure from the left to see the front of the shop.

    Loki,

Please just attach them to the forum post. I also enhanced the uploading so they will be high resolution now, so you could try uploading them to the pictures section again. I am still working on a ton of new features, so these restaurant listing and coupons on each page are coming very soon.

Shonan.... they SHOULD print at full size. At least they do when I try it.

On the other hand, I'll have to rescan them....

It might be better to scan them, and make them PDF.

Then you can post them by going to ADD REPLY.

Go to the attachments section. Upload, and then they will add to the post as a clickable link for PDF document.

That way people can open them up full size.

Loki, they're just medium-small sized jpegs (464x600 for one of them). Nothing can be done to improve the images that are on the server now. If you scanned them at a higher resolution and uploaded them as such, then the japanbases server re-sized them before displaying them.

Adam, does the server automatically resize all images -- unless they're embedded in a pdf? Can you upload jpeg's into the files section instead of the photos section and avoid the resizing?

The images would work in the forums as well, but they will get resized depending on the width/height of the images.

There is also an option when you add an image to use a clickable link, instead of adding the image to the post.

I think the best method would be to create them as a PDF document and add the PDF document to this post.

Here is a 1280x907 jpg of Zushi Ginza just to see if it gets re-sized posting it here in the forum directly. I'll upload the same image into the pictures section under maps to see if they are both re-sized. I'll delete one or the other later if necessary.

Hmm. I clicked "Display link" and "Insert image" for this post. The photo has been downsized a lot. The photo I uploaded to the pictures section was also re-sized, though not as much. Adam's suggestion on making a pdf may be the only easy work-around.

And please feel free to delete my images as well, Adam.

Yes the post I know will resize the image.

I just went and approve the image that you loaded into the MAPS section.

I had it set for it to resize down to 800x600.

I just went and bumped that up a bit so every image will remain high resolution and shrink down to 900x700.

That should do it I think if Loki re-uploads the maps there.

    Shonan,

I have it set for 500x500 for the forums to resize it for the insert link or the picture added.

Either PDF, or try uploading to the Japan Maps section again. I think it will format better if he tries it again in the pictures section, since I made it 900 x 700.
