    Adopt-a-Sailor Program a Resounding Success –

This year’s Adopt-a-Sailor Program served 550 single Sailors thanks to Kraft Foods generous donation of 60 turkeys.

The USO used 35 turkeys for their Thanksgiving Dinner and the remaining 25 went to Sailors who sponsored single and unaccompanied Sailors into their homes for the holiday.

The following are some Bravo Zulu’s from the Sailors and sponsors who participated in the program:

(Each BZ posted below was pulled from the Dec. 11, 2009 Seahawk newspaper and posted on their own forum post)

BZ: The fried turkey went really well. Due to the size, we had to trim it down to fit into the pot, no big deal; it was all consumed. My wife and I fed nine single Sailors from our command. Once again, thank you very much.

BZ: I had three single Sailors and one unaccompanied Sailor come over for Thanksgiving dinner. The program was very beneficial. Everyone enjoyed the turkey. Please keep me informed of any other up coming programs of this kind.

BZ: I hosted four Sailors in my home. There were a lot of people commenting on how they wish they would’ve known sooner. In any event, thank you for giving me the chance to participate.

BZ: We had three Sailors from USS Crommelin (FFG 37) join us. They really enjoyed it and we had a lot of food left over. Please let those who donated know we really appreciated their generosity.

BZ: I was able to feed 71 Sailors until we were all full and sleepy. No alcohol was served but the Kool-Aid flowed freely.

BZ: We had 45 Sailors in Ikego from USS George Washington (CVN 73) and USS Cowpens (CG 63). We also welcomed 15 local Japanese citizens to our Thanksgiving dinner. The turkeys were extremely welcomed.

BZ: I would just like to thank the CFAY Public Affairs Office for their help in obtaining some base information in Japanese for my guests. The office was extremely helpful and very professional. Thanks again.
