How long is the ride to Yokosuka base?

In the morning it takes about an hour if there are no hold ups.

It's only about a 45-minute bike ride to base from Negishi.

Hey Dan - You mean when there's little or no traffic, right? Let's be realistic here. I know it sucks driving from Negishi towards Yokosuka on weekends.

@Rotsa Ruck: When you're on your bike, you go faster than the traffic. Plus you take that road under the Seaside Line rather than taking 16 all the way. (This is the pedal-powered version of a bike I'm talking about.) It's even more fun riding past Kamakura on summer days: those cars just don't move.

It does take about an hour depending on traffic.
Just some additional info: My hubby sometimes can't get a seat on the bus because there are now so many single sailors here. Wwhen the carrier is in, I highly recommend taking the train or driving.

Biking to Yokosuka?  Sounds intriguing, but what about the traffic.  I know you mentioned that you would take some other road, but we are not in Japan yet, so we have no idea how traffic would be compared to 16.  Also, how are Japanese car drivers with respect to Cyclists?  I read a post of someone strongly deterring anybody from taking their bike from Ikego to Yokosuka because of the traffic.

We live in Negishi, and hubby biked for a while. But another biker (old lady) who wasn't looking where she was going ran into hubby's front wheel. All I gotta say is thank goodness he was wearing his helmet. Even if you take the alternate route, you are still using 16 for part of the way, which is where the accident happened.
We lived off base for a couple years and he rode his bike no problem because there were roomy sidewalks the whole way. I heard there's an actual bike trail from Ikego to Yoko, so if you're planning on a bike, then that would prob be the place to go.

For those that bike to Yokosuka from Negishi, what route do you take?
