Can anyone tell me if there are any support groups for people experiencing grief? I have been to FFSC, but all they offer is individual therapy. I have just lost my father and am a long long way from home. I do not have the support system I need and if there are no support groups here, I am very interested in starting one. Any information would be helpful.

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

I would recommend you speak with the Chaplains.
They are very familar with sailors an family members who experience loss.

You can always start support groups. If you need anything, please dont hesitate to ask.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is difficult even when you are near family and friends to support you. Being so far makes it feel so much worse. My prayers are with you. I agree with Adam, speak to a Chaplain. You may also want to speak to your doctor. Starting a support group is a wonderful idea. Find someone you can talk to as soon as possible. My mom was put in the hospital when we were stationed in Spain. Her doctor called me and told me to get home w/in 24-48 hours as she was not likely to make it. The Red Cross helped me get home. Once I was home she started to recover. I know the pain you feel right now as I lost my dad when I was not at home, too. Again, speak to your doctor, he/she may be able to give you something to help calm you down & defiinitely talk to someone. Take care and may God bless you and help you throught this difficult time.
    Sincerely,
    Patricia

Thank you so much for the information. I am going to contact the chaplain. The red cross helped our family get home as well. My father had cancer and he was put in the hospital with several PE's. We flew right home and he slowly recovered. My family returned to Japan and I stayed home, because we still feared the worse. Two months later the doctor told us he had recovered and told us with the cancer he would have another 6 months, so I returned to Japan. My father passed two weeks after I returned. It has been devastating. Again I thank you for your prayers and information. It really means a lot.
