UNIFORM NOTE: Ball caps are not authorized with service khakis, except in the general vicinity of the ship or pier, or in and around the building/place of work if on shore duty.

In accordance with CNFJ and Navy regulations the ball cap is not authorized except in the places listed above, to allow it anywhere else would take away from the instruction. This was brought up a few months back when the post was 1st put up and it was put that the BALL CAP WAS NOT AUTHORIZED by CNFJ there for could not be by any tenet commands.

I didn't know ATG authorized Service Khakis.. Of course I don't wear a uniform so I wouldn't stay up-to-date, but why would ATG (shore command that does ride ships) wear Service Khakis unless their ship riders were underway?

I have absolutely no idea what any of you are saying, but it sure is fun to read!

The Navy has too darned many uniforms. I don't know how they keep track, and I can only imagine how much of their paycheck goes to the different uniforms!

As far as I can tell, you people wear:

    blue work ones
    khaki ones
    blue digital camo ones
    white ones
white ones with the cracker jack flappy thing around the back neck of it
    old school camo

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. I think you all need two uniforms. One that's blue (so you blend into your water surroundings) and one that is white for spiffy occasions. The end.

I've saved the military ten gazillion dollars. Yay me!

PS how the heck do you keep track of which one to wear when?

    Hello all,

It is always great to see an interest in Uniform Regulations. We should all take pride in the uniform that we wear, "whatever your profession is." Actually, The Service Khaki is an Officers Uniform and (cap, ball) is an optional item according to chapter 3 of the U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations. If we are talking about the New Service Uniform then the (cap, ball) is also an optional item. Before we correct our sailors it is good to have all the facts. Also, the SOPA (senior officer present afloat) or SOP (senior officer present) is a prescribing authority. "

"Area coordinators prescribe the uniform of the day to be worn in their respective geographical areas. The senior officer present afloat (SOPA) prescribes the uniform of the day for shipboard commands outside the geographical limits of the area coordinator. The senior officer present (SOP) prescribes the uniform of the day for shore stations." -Naval Orientation - Military manual for administrative purposes

The U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations can be found at http://www.npc.navy.mil/CommandSupp...gulations/
    Thank you,

    V/R HM2(SW) Cox
