    U. S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka is sponsoring the Haunted Hospital October 30 from 5-9 p.m. Designed for kids but this is not a happy place. It is pretty creepy. Everyone all ages are invited to check out the Haunted Hospital. Admission is $1.00. You can't beat it.

Not to give too much away but the building we're using (E-18) was here long before the current main hospital building was built in 1981. It's old, that alone adds to the creepyness of the whole thing. Some staff that work there won't go in at night. We are excited about this event and hope there is a good turn out. Although we dialed it down for the kids, we will play it by ear and if a group of big kids is going through we might have to step it up a bit. The flyer says ages 5 and up but again this won't be a passive friendly experience. Parents please don't expect a nice, cute, hello kitty halloween. It's meant to be scary, weird and freak you out.

    Happy Halloween

Richard and the entire crew of the USNH Hospital:

You all did a fantastic job tonight with the Haunted house! I was very impressed. My only suggestion would of been that you could of started doing this show on Thursday, and then again on Friday. The spark or interest would of exploded on Friday, and you would of had 2x the show you had tonight. I think you still did very well, since we had to stand in the line for almost 30 minutes waiting to get in.. It was a great wait though, and saw a lot of kids frightened on their way out of the haunted hospital...

If anyone has any pictures they would like to upload, just login to the website, and visit this album...

    http://www.yokosukabase.com/pics/al...3-761.aspx

You can upload all your pictures at one time, and then title them if you choose to...

I just made 3 additional albums. One for Ikego, Negishi, and Yokosuka Trick-or-Treaters for Saturday's main event. It should be fun seeing all the trick-or-treaters out tomorrow...

You can visit the album link above for a few pictures I took from your event tonight..

I would like to thank everyone that came out to see our first attempt at a haunted attraction.
Although my name comes up alot with this project, it was the staff and family members of USNH Yokosuka that stepped up and made it work. Once the event kicked off I was a little suprised at the turn out. It was much better than expected. Hopefully we can do it bigger and better next year.
Please keep feedback and pictures coming in, this will help me with an after action and lessons learned for next time.

    Thank you again

It looks like we had close to 800 people visit our Haunted Hospital.
Thanks to all that stopped by to see it and thank you very much to the staff that made it happen.

“Freaks come out at night” for USNH Yokosuka Haunted Hospital
Story and photo by Jeffrey C. Doepp, CFAY Public Affairs

U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Yokosuka opened the doors of their Haunted Hospital to the Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) base community for the third-straight year Oct. 28, with a resounding turnout of people, both young and old.

More than 150 people were already standing in line a good 30 minutes before the 5 p.m. opening of the USNH Yokosuka First Class Petty Officer Association (FCPOA)-sponsored one-day event. According to FCPOA member and event co-coordinator Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Keegan Marcantel, this year’s event had the best turnout since its inaugural year.

“The first year we saw approximately 900 people take the haunted tour,” Marcantel said. “The second year we saw approximately 500 people. The decrease in visitors was largely due to the event being held in November because of a typhoon during the Halloween weekend. We haven’t crunched the numbers for this year yet, but it looks like more than 1,000 people came through our doors.”
Hospitalman Recruit Jennifer Hwang, a “patient” at the USNH Yokosuka Haunted Hospital, watches a “gripping” drama on TV while waiting to be seen by a “doctor.” USNH Yokosuka opened the doors of their Haunted Hospital to the CFAY community Oct. 28, with a resounding turnout of people, both young and old.

According to Marcantel, with limited options for older children and adults for haunted attractions on board the base, the Haunted Hospital gives the CFAY community a fun safe night of Halloween scares.

“It’s a guided tour through building E-18, our medical warehouse, which is spooky enough on its own,” Marcantel said. “Once the actors are in place, the lights turned off and the special effects running, the Haunted Hospital is actually pretty scary.”

Although the event is primarily used as a fund-raiser to of fset costs of the USNH Yokosuka holiday party each year, it is a way for hospital staff and its private organizations such as the FCPOA to give back to the community.

“W e want all our brothers and sisters in the armed services as well as their families across the Kanto plain to know that we are thinking of them,” Marcantel said. “The Haunted Hospital is a fun way to get the community together and have a good time.”

Aside from the large turnout of people who attended the event, the number of volunteers from the hospital and the amount of preparation involved was equally impressive.

“There are so many personnel involved,” said Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Trevor Thompson, who is an FCPOA member who also helped coordinate the event. “The event is always sponsored by one of the USNH Yokosuka private associations however; volunteers from every association, group and department in the hospital come out and contribute someway. We couldn’t do this without all of the people volunteering their time and talents or donating supplies.”

According to USNH Yokosuka Public Affairs Officer Rich McManus, the lessons learned from the previous years have helped in making the event better for the next year.

“The event has grown and become more popular every year,” McManus said. “Every year we do this we learn a few things to make it bigger and better for the next year. Although there is a tremendous amount of work involved in this one-day, four-hour event, because of the success of this one, we may consider extending it longer next year.”
