So it seems as if everytime I walk into the beauty salon at the NEX, I feel as if I'm inconveniencing the people who are supposed to be a convenience to me.

Has anyone tried out the salons outside of base? A co-worker has recommended HairMakeReally, and says she's gone about six times so far with no negative comments to date.

I just moved to Iwakuni a few weeks ago. I am an active hair braider and looking for new clientele. I can do cornrows, individuals, micros, and sew ins ... the works. I am a stay at home mom and intend to make this my full time job. I also specialize in eyelash extensions. I will be accepting appointments for the end of September for lashes. Just letting ya'll know, I was just hired as a Hair Stylist at the Nex and will likely be starting within the next 2 weeks (yay, just in time for the Holidays!). Just a background about me so you can feel comfortable..

I've had my cosmetology license for over 4 years. Before moving to Japan, I worked at the Vanity Room Salon located in Orange County, California. Fully trained in TiGi Precision hair cutting, multi-chromatic low and highlights, specialize in color corrections (the "oopsies, i messed up with the box color"), and updo's/styles for special occassions. I also do make up for weddings, photo shoots and special occassions. I've also done makeup for 2 music videos. I am very passionate about hair and makeup. I haven't been working for over 2 months and I am so excited to get back into it.

I'm interested in taking advantage of laser hair removal here in Japan, since I hear it is a bit more affordable than in the states. I'd LOVE to throw my razor away! Has anyone had this procedure done here? Where did you go? How much did it cost? Do you know of any practices that have English websites?

I was reading a magazine the other day and found a nice clinic with an excellent English website, but it is in Tokyo (close to Ebisu Station), which is a bit of a jaunt. They offer a HUGE variety of services. Here's the website if anyone was interested:

I was really interested in getting Chikuhodo brushes but can't find any other way. I'm still in the US right now so I can't go to a local store to pick them up. I know this is going to sound crazy but is there any way one of you guys living in Japan could help? I am open to paying via Paypal (the total plus shipping cost to send to me). Hair cutting for girls

My family waited for twenty minutes at the Fleet Rec to get my daughters hair cut only to be told they don't cut hair. Yet two months ago they did cut my daughter's bangs. We went to the Yokosuka NEX and waited a hour to get their hair cut only to be told they do not cut girls hair. We are not fancy. We just wanted a straight cut across the back and bangs for one. We wasted half a day at Yokosuka waiting for hair cuts that never happened.
We live in Yokohama and looking for a place to get my daughters hair cut.
