PCSing with cat out of Japan

We have our itinerary for April 10. It says cat in cabin. I do plan on calling United to confirm and make sure of everything needing to be done. But does anyone have any advice or info to give. We are traveling to Narita from Yoko. Who can take us to the airport with a cat since we can't take the bus? Also, besides the (within 10 day) health certificate, anything else we need? I will be calling the vet tomorrow if I can remember to. But I guess what I really need to hear is, has anyone taken a pet in flight with them? This is a first for me. My husband said a friend told him to take a bag of litter on the flight to take the cat into the bathroom to let him use it. Good idea? Just anything would be good. I have read over the other posts about departing with pets but I just need some advice. Thanks!

Who can I email about stolen items during packout?

Ok, I take 95% responsibility before anyone decides to jump on me. We just recently PCSed back to the states from Yokosuka. Well, the same day as the packout I noticed a pair of my earrings were gone from my box in the bathroom, they had sat there for the 3 years we lived there and I never had a problem, but I thought maybe my son had dropped them in the drain and they got washed away. I decided upon this after thinking MAYBE the movers had taken them. I did NOT want to jump to any conclusions as, well, I am not that type of person, I try to view everyone as good, and the 1 mover who spent more than a few seconds in the bathroom is the 1 mover who actually talked to me, had a conversation about how so many young kids steal and try to take the easy way out and not work for things. So yeah, didn't want to jump to any conclusions. Well, I just got my household goods yesterday, been unpacking all day, finally came to my jewlery box, which I did leave a few things in. Thinking, #1-it has a lid, there was no reason for the movers to open it. #2-you always hear how honest and good the Japanese are, so I really wasn't worried about the few things in there. It was nothing normally worn, just a few keepsakes. So yeah, just opened my jewlery box and 2 things are missing. Ugh...again, taking most of the blame here, stupid of me to leave ANYTHING of sentimental value but they were doing a job, they should NOT be stealing!!!!!!! So, I am looking to see who I can email? Not so much to get anything back but to let them know that some of these movers are shady!! Maybe they can look into NOT hiring them anymore or at least asking them or SOMETHING. So, any ideas?

Vacationing with Pet

I am considering going to the states for a month and I really want to take my dog with me. I went through the process to bring him to Japan, with all the paper work and the quarantine. I am wondering if there is a better process to take him with me for a few weeks? Or do you recommend he stays behind?
Leaving Japan- US Entry requirements?

Does anyone have the information on what is required for cats to enter the US? We plan on sending them back to the US ahead of us. I really have no idea what vaccinations they need so I guess I'd better start because they need everything I'm sure. They've always been in a rabies free country so haven't ever had the rabies vaccine.
What is the min age of a cat you can Psc back to the states with?

Okay at playground out in town on Thurs with my son.A box with a kitten with a t-shirt was found. When I arrived at 130pm the box was not there at 2pm there was a crowd of kids around it. So Long story short, I have taken her to the vet three times and she has turned around. It actually looks like she could survive now. She was born around the 6th of this month she was still sneezeing up after brith and had a bit of cord still attachted to her.She is doing really good now and has even started to open her eyes. In the process of trying to get ahold of the local rescue and trying to keep her from expiring, the family has grown attached to this little kitty.

Now I know I didnt think it all the way through when I picked up this poor little kitty. We are supposed to be PCSed already. They cancled our orders twice. I dont know how much longer we have here in Japan. So does anyone know the minimume age that you can export a cat out of Japan say to California?

Important Steps To Take When You Transfer With Pets From Japan

Important Steps To Take When You Transfer With Pets From Japan

By PS3 Travis Daniels, PSD Yokosuka

If you own a pet, before you even start packing for your next permanent change of station, there are important steps you will need to take in order for your pet to be placed on a flight with you, and all sorts of documents and items to get. Here, we will look at the requirements, restrictions and the government of Japan (GOJ) regulations of the import and export of pets.

The key to planning your flights with pets is time. As soon as you get your orders to your next duty station you will need to schedule your flight reservations through a designated transfer clerk or through Navy Personnel Transportation Office. A 20-day window is required for booking with pets. When providing pet information, you will need to include the weight of the pet and the pet carrier, which must be large enough for the pet to stand, turn around and lay down in normal posture. You will also need to provide the pets age, breed and sex; as well as Rabies Vaccination certificate or Veterinary Health certificate.

If you plan to fly with Air Mobility Command (AMC), your pet and its kennel cannot exceed a combined weight of 150 pounds. If you exceed the weight limit, your pet will need to be shipped by a local cargo company. Families are allowed only two pets unless flying under the Space-Available Pet program, which passengers may reserve more pet space 15 days prior to AMC flight departure through the local transportation office. Soft-sided and collapsible kennels will not be accepted for pets in the cargo area. For AMC flights, the required arrival time is no later than 2 hours and 20 minutes prior to flight departure. Passengers on contract commercial flights may check-in up to 6 hours prior to departure.

The GOJ has requirements for the import and export of pets. First, your pet must have a microchip embedded, which includes your address and the pets shot record. The identification number of the chip must be documented on the rabies certificate, the health certificate and on the rabies serology (FAVN) test results sheet. The most recent vaccinations must be given no less than 30 days and no later than 12 months prior to arrival. After the second rabies shot, your pet will need to have a Fluorescent Antibody Viral Neutralization Test.

The GOJ also requires an advanced notification of pet movement as soon as transportation is scheduled for Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) members on commercial air. In the “Remarks” section, annotate the following:

“This pet belongs to a U.S. SOFA sponsored family and will be assigned to (list installation).”

For notification, visit the Japan District Veterinary Clinic (JDVC) website at: www.usarj.army.mil/organization/vet/.

You will need to obtain the MDJ Form 270, Pet Quarantine and Examination certificate, which allows your pet to be released to you for transportation to the U.S. Military Quarantine Facility, from this website.

You will then need to submit the form to the Animal Quarantine officer upon arrival, then to the U.S. Military Veterinary Treatment Facility within 72 hours of arrival. Visit the JDVC website for more information.
